Subject: [DNA] No Matches in YSTR Databases
Date: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 13:51:22 EST
Hi,
My brother was tested for the Walker DNA Study. His haplotype is as follows:
DYS 393: 15
DYS 390: 21
DYS 19: 17
DYS 391: 10
DYS 385a: 18
DYS 385b: 18
DYS 426: 11
DYS 388: 13
DYS 439: 12
DYS 389-1: 14
DYS 392: 11
DYS 389-2 31
This haplotype has NO matches in the European, USA, or Asian YSTR databases.
Nor in the Italian YSTR database.
When I plug in each allele individually, the most uncommon is the 18,18 for
DYS 385a&b with only 6 hits in the European, 21 in the USA, and 2 in the
Asian.
Bennett Greenspan (Family Tree DNA) told me that the higher scores for DYS
385a&b indicated a Jewish heritage.
Also, DYS 390: 21 appears uncommon with only 118 hits (when done
individually).
I've seen a lot of discussion recently about the more rare alleles and would
appreciate an explanation of this.
My (brother's) haplotype doesn't match any of the other Walkers tested thus
far. However, I have just submitted four applicants that I am sponsoring who
"should/may" match my brother. At this point I am trying to rule out any
non-paternity events first.
I was also told that most of the Walkers tested (85%) were of the Western
Atlantic Modul. Can someone tell me how many different moduls there are?
And what modul is my haplotype???
Any discussion on my haplotype would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Suzanne Walker Hallstrom
