Maybe it won't be opening up a can of worms, unless those maternal
relatives actually "passed", as many did. If they didn't, then I'm sure
they already know their family background and perhaps won't be surprised at
all if the DNA pattern on that side of the family tree will not take them
back to Africa. I'm sure most African-Americans will have to address this
issue when they get tested.

At the moment and in preparation for a family reunion, I am most interested
in my mother's direct paternal line, since this is the furthest-traced line
of my family. However, if my interpretation of things is accurate, I would
have to test one of my Mom's brothers to know the origins of my Mom's
paternal great-great-grandfather (her father's paternal grandfather's
father). Like yours, I'm fairly confident that this line is a point of
entry into this country from Africa.
