I would like to address this. I think that if the government or anybody else wants our DNA, they will find a way to get it. We already have to give insurance companies permission to get our health records from our doctors or we don't get the insurance, which most of us feel we have to have. We get blood tests at our doctors and don't always know exactly what they are testing for and that could come to include our DNA profiles. Haven't I read that newborns have DNA profiles done in some states? The US armed forces apparently does DNA tests routinely (body ID, I'm sure). This is just something that is going to be out there and available. Certainly, I hope it is always used in the right way, but our genealogical use of it isn't going to have any effect on that. I think we might as well have our fun with it.

Seems like some people will believe anything. DNA for genealogy purposes
has not been proven, with the 12 and 25 point markers you might have matches
but they could be meaningless. So the companies doing the DNA testing are
now telling people that to do the kind of testing that can determine if
someone is your father, brother, cousin distant or close that it will cost a
whole lot more and you need to pay for the 46 chromosomes and alot more
markers. Besides all the cost involved do you really want these companies
or the government to have your DNA on file for there use with out your
permission?
