Subject: [DNA] Wanted: Ten Pennington Surname Men for Free DNA Study
Date: Mon, 4 Nov 2002 15:23:30 -0500

The Pennington Research Association, Inc. (non-profit Org.) needs ten
Pennington, or spelling variation, men living in the UK, not closely
related, for a study of the Y chromosome. They must be from a Pennington
family that can trace its genealogy for at least two centuries. Each
volunteer would donate a few cells scraped from the inside of his cheek in
a simple and painless process done by the volunteer himself, as well as
his family history. An analysis of the Y chromosome of these cells would
then be compared to analyses already made. This will reveal whether the
participants share a common ancestor. The identity of individual
volunteers will not be revealed but they will be given their DNA sequence
and general information on their matches.
The purpose of this project, Stage III in the PRA's ongoing study, is to
help determine the number of DNA-related Pennington family branches, and
thus to clarify the family genealogy. Please see the PRA website,
www.Penningtonresearch.org, for more details.
A related objective is to make connections between Pennington families in
the UK, the US and elsewhere. The Pennington families took their surname
from their village in the 12th to 14th centuries. There are over 30
Pennington Family Groups in the US, based solely on traditional genealogy.
Our DNA study has so far shown connections between several of these
branches within the US, but there are fewer traditionally established
connections between the UK, the US and elsewhere. Ten UK volunteers will
undoubtedly help to clarify the picture. If you know a Pennington who is
even vaguely interested in genealogy please inform them about this study!
