Subject: [DNA] FTDNA results and questions
Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 01:45:44 -0800

We got back the first Clark results in our known line(my father's 2nd
cousin) and not only didn't match the other Clarks, but we didn't match
anyone else in the FTDNA database. There were 20 matches on the REO page
which says the results came from either FTDNA or the databases supplied to
them by the U of AZ. So it would have to be the latter. I also plugged in
the results on the STR's sites. We had 8 matches on the US site and 48 on
the European site. (Is this about average for matches?)

I have so many questions that have probably been answered before, but after
two hours of searching the archives, I'm asking anyway. To begin with, we
got two emails from FTDNA; one stated that the STR results were posted and
the other that the PP3 results were posted. What does PP3 mean?
I'm guessing there's no way to know the surnames of the matches on the STR's
sites. The 48 matches in Europe were widespread. The highest number of
matches at any one place was only 3 and these cities/countries were diverse:
London, Sweden, Freiburg, and Strasbourg. There were combined numbers of at
least 5 in Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Germany. Do these numbers have any
significance? Could they possibly signify a common ancestor or is it
probable that a comparison with more markers would eliminate most of them?

I'm hoping to find another male Clark relative to test as a control but for
now am assuming that these results would be the same as my father's.

I'd appreciate any feedback/assistance from more knowledgeable members of
the list (that probably means everyone).
So far the Clark study doesn't have a website, so I'm in the dark about the
others who've tested.
