Subject: [DNA] Do DYS markers tell more information about country than mtDN?
Date: Wed, 06 Nov 2002 11:20:38 -0800
Do DYS markers tell more information than mtDNA? I notice males who have DYS
markers from the Y chromo not found in females have countries listed after
their DYS markers, but females testing mtDNA only have no clue to names of
countries their sequences might come from. How come? Can anyone explain why
men get readings of countries such as "Ireland" or "Scotland" or "Galway in
Ireland" from DYS markers, and women's tests, of mtDNA show nothing other
than "Eurasia?--in general?" What type of analysis would show the
equivalent, if any, in a woman's DNA test? Thanks.
