John - Thanks for the reply,
I looked at your site and the Atlantic Modal Haplotype - I don't have a 394
but I match all the other ones except (like You) my 390 is one off - I have
23 instead of a 24.
On the Y-STR Europe data base I have 23 matches. The main ones are 3/Sweden,
2/Norway, 2/Berlin, 2/Freiburg, 2/Leipzig, 2/Rostock, 2/SaoPaulo and the
other 8 are 1 hits. If you look at it on their map it looks like someone
shot Europe with a shotgun. Sure would like to contact the ones that match,
but like you I'm patient and know something will show up.
On the Y-STR USA data base I have 2/CT, 1/MD, 1/NYC, 1/MO and 1/Cajun LA.
The 2 in Ct and the 1 in NYC are listed as Hispanic which really confuses
me, except looking at the Europe database that showed 2 in SaoPaulo (South
America) and 1 in Portugal which could lead to the reported Hispanic ones in
the US.
Looking at my matches in Sweden and Norway leads me to believe that's where
my ancestors originated from, I've contacted Oxford and they are going to do
a Viking match for me.
My site is at http://hayesclan.com and I will be posting my DNA results
there soon.
Later ....... Bill

Hello Bill,
I had my Y-chromosome test done with Relative Genetics in Feb 2002 and am
still waiting for them to begin matching DNA samples in their data bank.
I have put my DNA test results on my own personal website at
www.bertdefriest.nl in the hopes that someone named McNamara will see it
and want to compare his DNA with mine. I seed no need for secrecy here,
in fact, the test results are only useful if they are publicised. I have
put my test results also at the Y-base data base, but so far no matches.
I have placed notices on McNamara boards on-line. Some day someone will
respond and I will have my long-waited for and hoped for response.
I am patient. Only four years ago - July 1998 - did I find out the name,
nationality and other background information of my birth mother. I found
my biological father that same year in September. He refuses to do a DNA
test with me. But since then I do use his surname as my own. For my own
peace of mind though, and before going to court to change my name
officially, I need the Y-chromosome DNA match with another male McNamara.
In the last four years genealogy has become my passion and gives me much
personal satisfaction -I have trace both my birth mother's and my
biological father's genealogy back to the early 17th century on many
lines.
At the european data base I found only one match - in Freiburg Germany -
but as interesting as it is to know, it is useless for my purposes as
there are too few markers, and the match is nameless.
So I wish you good luck and much patience , and courage to publicise
your test results as far and wide as possible. I am sure that eventually
we shall both find what we are looking for.
Bert de Friest Macnamara
