There is a slightly serious point to my gentle ribbing about the
Britishness of the Continental Army, of course.
Since the european migration into the Northeast US is only an augenblick
away in historical terms, it's pretty likely that many folks with English
surnames (like Hatcher and Barrett) are genetically pretty similar to
modern day English folks (Using the word in deference to the Scots and the
Welsh).
So our MRCA could well be some adventurous soul who tilled the fields of
Cambridgeshire back in Tudor times and shared the same genetic propensity
for adventure and orneriness that made your gggggF fight the awful British
rulers over there and mine fight the awful British rulers over here.
