So, does the other guy know which brother he descends from? Are there
other results from the brother you think you descend from? HIS LINKAGE TO OB
IS "IFFY"
How do the
two of you compare to each other? THERE IS A FOURSOME THAT MATCH 12 12 AND
THEN TWO THAT ARE OFF BY 3 AND 4 RESPECTIVELY. THE 3 NON MATCH ARE THREE OF
THE 4 NON MATCH. WHAT CONCLUSION CAN ONE DRAW FROM THE FACT THAT THE 3
MISMATCH WITHIN THE 4 MISMATCH? THESE TWO PERSONS MATCH 9 OF 12.

Can you get back to England with these guys (I am guessing England:)
Maybe you can find a sister or other relative who died and left a child
to be raised by a brother or other relative or friend. Or, maybe he was
a stepston who took the name. THE FATHER OF THE THREE BROTHERS HAS NOT BEEN
PROVEN. WE ARE TRYING TO GET ENGLISH TOWNSENDS TOWNSHENDS TO PARTICIPATE.
YES, FINDING A MATCH IN ENGLAND WOULD BE GREAT.

I'm looking at an interesting possibility now with a possible
"nonpaternity event". I have actually found a brief court record where
a widow with the surname I am looking at was charged with bastardy and
am wondering if that is the source of our ancestor:) I even have some
ideas of who might have been the culprit (though he was not named.)
Maybe I'll get lucky someday and find a surname project with that name. I
HAVE TO RESEARCH FURTHER WITH THESE THOUGHTS IN MIND TOO.
THANKS
LEW

At least you have an interesting puzzle to solve. Good luck.

Nancy

The DNA test results match paper genealogy except that one who "thinks"
he
is an Oyster Bay Townsend descendant appears not to be and one (me) who
has
a solid paper trail to an Oyster Bay brother is off by 4 markers. So it
appears that there is something in my ancestry line that has yet to be
identified.

Thanks

Lew

How do they cluster in regard to the paper genealogy?

Eight test results have now been received for the TOWNSEND Surname DNA
project. Six participants claim descendancy from three brothers in
Oyster
Bay, Long Island, NY in the 1600s and four of the test results match for
all
twelve markers. But the two others mismatch these four by 3 and 4
markers
respectively.

Two other test results are for participants claiming ancestors in the
1700s
in North Carolina and the result indicate no linkage between these
ancestors.

More participants welcomed with any Surname spelling variation.

Comments welcomed.
