Subject: [DNA] mt DNA Results for a 103 Year Old Woman
Date: Sat, 1 Mar 2003 19:56:59 -0800 (PST)
I just received the results of mtDNA testing of my 103 year old mother in law - unique. There are no matches in the FTDNA or OA databases. Here are the numbers: 069T 126C 148T.
069 126 is "classic" J (Jasmine) as I understand it. It seems that it is the 148T number that is an anomaly. In OA's huge database, there are only 5 individuals with a 148 mutation of any sort - and they are all H (Helena).
Is there anyone who can assist in the interpretation of these results for my mother in law and her earliest known maternal ancestor Rebecca Wright born 1812 in Tennessee?
There is new evidence that those over 100 years old are many times more likely to have a mutation called "C150T transition" (recent article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences). Is it possible that 148 is also subject to mutation in those over 100?
Thanks for any suggestions you may be able to offer.
David.
