Hello all.....going onto a site/e-list such as this is like getting up speed
for the freeway entrance!!! I think I have my speed up now!!

I believe Orin hit the nail on the head...."know what your goal is in the
beginning...or somewhat of a goal." AND know just how much money you want to
budget for these tests/projects! I am but a humble genealogist and got
channeled off to the Oxford Ancestry site because of a New York Times
article. From there I sent in my "swab"....and knew ahead of time that my
ancestry was "proven" generation by generation as far back in the 1700s which
reached to England....and that was their prerequisite at that time (at least
to be on their continent/area). SO...they did the Matriline search/Seven
Daughters...and came up with a group that went up to the very cold country of
Norway/Russia...circumpolar areas. It was the smallest group...and very few
people belong to us yet. It supposedly took me back 11,000 years. I was NOT
concerned about "names of families" because I like to document each
generation as thoroughly as possible..so I didn't even order their "map."

So far, I am writing a book about my indigenous people of the North
Country...doing art work re: their religion, etc. It just kept snowballing
and WHAT A PLEASURE it has been!! I don't seem to be taking it to the depths
that most of you are going. For one thing, I am not a scientist and there
are no classes in "DNA" in my area...so I am sticking to the basics.

I hope I am encouraging the more simple minds out there to go ahead with a
plan for your DNA. If you are old, such as myself, just finding out that
your DNA stretches back 11,000 to 30,000 years back might be good enough!!

Regards to all....(and..I love this list!!)
