It is necessary to keep in mind that averages only apply to large numbers of
samples. Those of us in Northern California have seen some strange rainfall
patterns in the last 30 years, from droughts to floods. However, if you add
up all the rain recieved in the last 30 years and divided by 30 you'll still
get the aveage rainfall for that period. It just works that way.
