And my online research suggest that hair color is a combination of gene
activity and environment, especially sunlight. It is different from eye color,
which generally involves two genes, one dominate and one recessive. My daughter
has red hair. Also, my grandfather had red hair. However, my hair was brown
until I got a lot of sun, then in faded to blond. On the other hand, when I grew a
long beard and also spent time in the sun, I had a long red beard.
I think my daughter got red hair because I had the right genes and my wife's
mother had auburn hair. I also have two grandchildren, my daughter's kids,
that were born with the red hair showing. It has to be a combination of gene
activity that explains all that.
