Hi Richard,
I know you have already gotten some very knowledgable replies from the
Forum. Just wanted to agree with you that a strong possible candidate for
potentially Jewish ancestry would be through Huguenots who migrated into North
America, especially the Southeastern US around Charleston, SC, in the early 1700's.
Presnell, Purcell and Pernell would all have potentially Huguenot origins.
A paper by sociologist Abraham Lavender, who is himself of Huguenot
descent, argues that many Huguenots were originally Jews who converted to
Protestantism, with some still maintaining their Judaic customs (as well as their
DNA!). Beth
