Well I have to add that my family DNA test does support her contention.
We test out as R1a, and supposedly came from Scotland (Ayrshire?) to Co.
Monaghan in the early 1700s (not part of the Plantation - both Monaghan
and Cavan were populated later: before 1700 Tithe Applotment records for
this area show only Anglo-Irish landowners and Catholic tenants), and
stayed there. They were Presbyterians and had no crypto-Jewish religious
practices, but the STR test confirms the Haplotype. One other
interesting fact is that our value (myself and another family member)
for DSY 449 is 35. This is way at the end of the range and very unusual.
It was not in the range given in the Ybase.org data base. They had to
manually change it. So I would be interested to hear of any other R1as
with the same value for DSY449.
