Not sure why you addressed this one to me. (I think you wanted David
Faux, Ph.D.?) I thought I was making it clear that people with
different surnames may very well have Y-chromosome matches, due to the
naming practices in New Netherland.

Ray:

There is only one danger in "following" surnames.....WHAT IF the
man/boy/woman (although not often a female) changes his or her name (either because of
family squabbles, facing prison, etc.)....when they move around, go West, or
North or South??? I have found this a couple of times in my 1700s timeframe with
ancestors. How would we ever know whether we are following a "real" surname?
This makes me jittery. :))
