Subject: [DNA] DNA Scientists' Friendliness, Trust and Respect
Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2003 20:26:12 -0700

After interviewing many different geneticists and CEOs of DNA companies,
I've found that by far they were very open and willing to talk or correspond
with me to discuss certain aspects of DNA research from the consumer's point
of view. I've posted some of the interviews at
http://www.newswriting.net/id4.html. When I began researching DNA for
ancestry for the purpose of interviewing experts and writing about the
field, the scientists, especially those in England went out of their way to
correspond with me. They were open, friendly, and what I hold most dear,
unafraid to speak to me even though I don't work for a major daily
newspaper. When I began my research for my book on nutritional genomics, I
found the same friendly, open scientists who were willing to share
information in the midst of the news buzz about the three-year old field of
nutritional genomics. I want to thank all that took the time to give me
valuable information. The friendliest were the people in nutritional
genomics and the people in DNA for ancestry and genealogy. They were warm,
outgoing, and gave me, a freelance author, the same equal trust and respect
they would give to prize-winning journalists employed by major urban daily
newspapers. I thank all those warm and friendly people.

For decades I've freelanced as case history writer in public relations,
writing success stories for scientific and technical companies, including
some software firms, and I've never met a better bunch of guys with the
right attitude. For when the DNA guys had to deal with me--a self-employed
book author with no science credentials, they treated me equally and with
respect as they would have treated a big-time reporter on a large, urban or
national paper or magazine. It's the litmus test of humanity. Thank you all.
