You have it right but there are a few things you need to consider. A
mitochondrial match might date back thousands of years. Unless your mother's line and
the other person's line are from the same place you are probably not related.
You might have a few million matches if everybody in the US was tested.
Use your mitochondria to get an idea where your ancestors might have lived a
few thousand years ago.
