Aileen, I have a situation much like yours. In my case my mother and I are the last two of our female line back into the 1700's. I had my mtDNA done just to have it. I've had several matches - no connections - but I feel like it might be significant someday - and maybe to some cousin's descendant long after I'm dead and gone will be glad to have it. They will learn more about mtDNA and what can be told by it. I just wanted my line "represented" in some historical sense. It may have been a waste of money tho. I'll look forward to what others here say on that. Maybe you could find a cousin or cousins on your maternal line who would like to have your results too and would split the cost with you.

I have had my father's DNA tested mainly, to eventually, as databases grow,
find ADAMS ancestors. I am thinking about having my DNA tested but am
wondering if it would be worth spending the money. My mother was an only
child. My grandmother was an only child. I don't know anything about my
grandmother's mother as she was divorced when my grandmother was quite
young. Since neither had brothers I will have to rely on a paper trail to
find my maternal grandfathers. My mother and all my grandparents are
deceased.
What will having my DNA tested show? And would it be worth the money
especially since I am on a very limited income.
Thanks for any insight.
Aileen
