I fear that some of you are over-interpreting Warren's observation about HIS
surname study. It may very well be useful in that limited context, when you
are looking at a few specific ancestors who share all their other markers. But
descendants of the UK Whitesides could mutate in the direction of the Scottish
ones at any time, and vice versa. You just can't look at a marker in isolation
-- you need to look at the whole haplotype and have large enough samples to
draw any conclusions about where it might be found.
