Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I can tell, FTDNA only uses the designation "R1a" and if your haplogroup was actually R1a1, it would still show as R1a. Therefore, although all of my Uncle's close "matches" in the "Haplogroup" database are "R1a" (and his haplotype is HG3 old style), he is really R1a1.

The above point neads clarification as it seems to be causing a lot of confusion. Max, are you out there?
