Subject: [DNA] shovel-shaped incisors
Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 19:07:35 EDT

I received an email from a woman with a medical background who asked me to

"please tell the young man asking about shovel teeth that they are caused by
nutritional deficiency. Yes, it happens in families, because once a mother
has nutritional deficiency carrying a child, this mal formation of the mouth
continues for at least 7 generations of good nutrition to FIX....you see, the
people who went up into the Appalachain Mountains in our United States...their
diets consisted mostly of pig, pig fat, and corn and some wild greens that they
learned to glean from the forest and grow."

Now I don't know for 100% that she is correct, but I felt this should be
tossed into the discussion. If so, one might expect to also find shovel shaped
incisors in the offspring of mothers who went throught the irish potato famine,
or in certain Swedish populations who went through their various famines and
resorted to eating bark bread (ugh!).
