Hello Peter. Yes, your hypothesis would seem to be consistent with the data. But if I am correct, then the Paynes and the Fauxes came from the same geographic area in France (Channel Islands - Britany), then ended up in the same area of Norfolk, England. From a DNA perspective I am assuming that the match is not random. I know that Paynes had the surname Payn, and the Fauxes had the surname Falke, in the late 1300s. It has been shown that the Payn family came from Jersey (Channel Islands) about 1200. It is unknown at present where the Falke family ancestor was in 1200 - and whether between 1200 and about 1350 some "event" caused a Payn to become a Falke. A non - paternity event?? - the possibilities are I fear limitless, but I feel that I am making progress and that eventually the puzzle pieces will all fit into place. Patience David, patience.

Thanks for your input, David.

published research that my R1b Y-DNA was not likely Norwegian or Germanic
but more likely from the west of France or the Channel Islands (a 24/25
match with a person whose ancestors were from the Isle de Jersey until
about 1200 then Wymondham, Norfolk two miles from where my ancestors
resided helped to prop up the findings from the other data sources).

Is this not consistent with the Sinclair/Stuart angle? This
influx of French DNA (supplemented by the Earls' retainers)
would contribute Celtic Y DNA just as much as any residual
native populations. As an example, I know of certain Kincaid
lines from the Lothians who accompanied Robert Stuart
to the Orkneys in the 1500s.
