Paul: Dude, I thought I made it abundently clear in my last missive that I am not affiliated with any DNA firm, and receive a check only from the educational setting where I work, and royalties from the books I have published. I gave up my private practice some years ago. Some day I may well link up with an academic setting and / or a commercial DNA testing firm; and I may also get a contract to do voice overs................all sorts of possibilities exist out there and if opportuntity knocks I will certainly be listening.
Yup, I do get a very hefty discount for all my DNA projects from FTDNA, the exact same discounts that other Project Administrators get. And yes I am a big fan of FTDNA since I have had every other lab take a crack at anlayzing my Y-DNA so I could compare on factors such as accuracy (reliability) of marker scores, range of services, and customer support. This is a rhetorical question: Is there any other testing service out there that provides participants with their own web page and one click access to exact matches with e-mail of contact persons? Also on the same page there is a tab to access the REO database, and another tab for the Haplogroup database - so that a person can instantly see the number of matches by country in two important databases (the later only including those with SNP testing so they have been identified as R1a or whatever). Now FTDNA is creating another database, apparently modelled on that of ybase (which was a great idea, I only take exception wit!
h the
process used to accumulate the data).
Competition is one of the factors that keeps things moving forward in the industry. I just plain and simply don't like feeling "used"; and I like to know a little about the "team" I have selected. FTDNA is affiliated with Dr. Michael Hammer of the University of Arizona - something that instills confidence, at least in myself. Now, what is the university affiliation of the DNAHeritage folks? Until they tell me I am not going to invest 2 cents to have my DNA tested by an unknown entity.

Hello David,
No I'm certainly not a mole but I do like to praise where praise is due. Kind of a custom from where I come from. And I'll certainly praise who I please. It's a gift that goes with great age and I'm as educated as any and many.
But could you in fact be working for FTDNA?? Therein lies a question.
I did a lil huntin' around I can't see you've had a good thing to say about any company APART from FTDNA.
Why would you suddenly pipe up and try and discredit one firm, which by your own admission you have only used the services of their free, open-to-all database, and try and convince everyone that by deleting their info from one database and move it to another database, that sounds like a clone anyway (I guess we are in the realms of biotechnology), would be better for genealogy?
As a non-FTDNA customer, they've never let me search their database. Why should they suddenly change ethics now?
They must give you a VERY big discount on your Faux surname study. And possibly your Williamson surname study. And maybe your Y Shetland project and possibly also your mtDNA Shetland Project.
So I can see that you are clearly not affilliated with FTDNA in any way!!!
Yours,
Paul
