I'm still studying the manual, but I have a little insight into the
triangle-within-a-triangle design now. You may recall earlier discussions where we
noted that representing four populations would require a three-dimensional figure.
The old triangle design would just plot the three highest populations out of
four (European, African, East Asian, and Native American).
The triangle-within-a-triangle can be cut out and folded into a pyramid. Each
of the four small triangles plots three of the four populations. Then you
have to imagine the confidence curves on the faces of the pyramid projected
inside. If your confidence intervals on the plain old triangle chart were truncated
at the edge of the triangle, they would be continued on the next face of the
pyramid.
That's as far as I've gotten! Any other interpretations are welcome.
