Have you seen the various studies of father - son pairs. Fascinating to realize that in one transmission the difference between a father and son could be such that they only match 10 / 12. You can check the articles and download directly from the FTDNA site or www.historicalgenetics.com but it apears that up mutations are about twice as likely as down mutations.
