Lucy:
You asked how to scan the archives. I am not going to give you a link but I
will tell you how to find it. This works for all the Rootsweb mailing lists.
First go to rootsweb.com. Click on the Mailing Lists button at the top. A
list of mailing list choices will be displayed - surnames, states,
international, and other. In the Other box there is a Miscellaneous category. Select it.
Now a bunch of miscellaneous lists will come up. Select Genealogy-DNA.
A Genealogy-DNA-L page will be displayed. From this page you can subscribe,
unsubscribe, search the archives, or browse the archives. If you click on
Search the archives it will bring you to a page where you can type in a
keyword(s) and select the year to search. I believe this is what you want. By using
the Browse archives you can pick a month/year and scroll through all the
messages for that period. You can view all the threads although some people don't
change the subject line so many replies may be unrelated to the original topic.
Hope this helps.

Also, I have not found a way to "scan" the archives--is there a word search,
or must one read thousands of messages?

Thanks,
