Somewhere I saw a Scottish saying, "It is a puir clan that has neither
whures nor rogues in it." Amen to all below.

While I'm embarrassed by the heavy-handed flaming that Richard Cottrell
got, I'm here to tell you that one can't count on one's ancestors to be
decorous! And unlike Richard, I didn't need DNA analysis to prove it.
My father (he's 91!) still hasn't forgiven me for proving (from German
Lutheran parish records) that not one but BOTH of his immigrant
ggparents were illegitimate in the old country! I still haven't been
able to find out who one of the ggggfathers was.
(Unfortunately, gggfather's only son died in infancy in 1879, so there
won't be any Y-chromosome ID.) On top of that, my genealogy includes
three divorces in two generations in an era when divorce wasn't all that
common. I've retrieved some pretty sordid "he said - she said" from the
public (court) record. I also have evidence that my ggmother married her
second husband BEFORE she was divorced from my ggfather. It looks like
she only went through the legal formalities so
she could be sure of getting the 2nd guy's Army pension. But hey!
They're my ancestors and a hearty, lusty, yeasty, beasty bunch they
were. I treasure every one!

coast] it means the same thing ... it's just that some people put a
little twist on it, to what ever their liking would be and some times
depending on what the situation at hand would be :) if it was me I
would have gone as far as ... oh never mind I don't want to tarnish the
fairy tail any further :)

not heresy or what ever great auntie Matilda Poopendecker would want
people to think her ancestors were like ... though some of us would like
to be Saintly or Christ like, it's a hard pedestal to stay standing atop
of :) face it things happen and later generations can't fix it up like
it never happen ...

pre-marital affair in the past (4) the first husband or soon to be
suitor died, and the [known or not knowing] expecting widow re-married
before the child was born ... these last three categories, although a
fact of life, can be a disappointment in ones research efforts. We are
still family, just not how one would have thought [hope] ...
