Gary,

Thanks for the heads up on that marker results difference.

I just completed updating my tables in my "labmerge" page which shows
the results for people in my Kerchner Surname Y-DNA Project who have
been tested at more than one lab. Both people in my project got an 11 at
marker GATA H4 in the results received today from FamilyTreeDNA.com
while both people had obtained a 12 at GATA H4 from prior tests at
Ancestry.com/Relative Genetics and DNAHeritage.com. Here is the link:

Thanks again Gary for alerting us to this. I believe all the labs
monitor this list so they all should be aware of this new
standardization issue. But it would not hurt for those of us who have
been tested by more than one lab to email them just in case. I for one
will CC them this message.

However, I'm puzzled by a difference in the results between FTDNA and DNA Heritage on GATA H4 - FTDNA assigned a value of 11 and DNA Heritage assigned a value of 12. Is there a reason based on methodology that two labs would come up with close but different results. In a situation where one or two step differences between markers may be the distinction between being related or not, it's something that is of some concern to me. On all other markers tested by the two companies, the results were identical.
