Good point. I've been reading all the messages in this thread, and you all
have good ideas -- an embarrassment of riches, so to speak! Charles made a few
modifications to his site at my suggestion, and I will include it in the
Welcome message, along with another site at about.com that I have recommended in the
past:

http://genealogy.about.com/cs/geneticgenealogy/a/dna_tests.htm

You may find that links on these sits are more meaningful when you return to
them AFTER reading the list for a while. I often find that if I cycle through
sites and articles, things pop out that made no sense the first time around.

David, wearing his professorial hat, thinks in terms of "course
prerequisites" or "required reading," but I don't think we could even agree on what is
essential. What's important for one person's situation is irrelevant for
another's. Probably 99% of what we discuss on this list is NOT essential at all <g>,
but newbies have no context to appreciate that. Of course, it all becomes more
interesting when you can relate discussions to your own questions, goals, and
test results.
