Subject: [DNA] Rating Surname Projects

The thread on rating DNA Surname Projects seems to me to be off the track.
The correct measure of value should not be some quantitative assessment but
should be tied to the specific objectives of the Project. Different people and
Projects have different objectives. This is good. My COLE project has well
defined and limited objectives, viz: Do three COLE families in a limited
geographic area (Sumter and Darlington District SC) have a common ancestor or not.
Value is measured by confirming or denying that the three (or two of them)
have a common ancestor. A different measure of value would be used for someone
doing a single surname project. One size does not fit all. This genealogy
stuff is not a competition.
