Two questions:

1. Which DNA test would be the best to do for a woman?

2. Where to find articles to help a beginner would be welcome.
I am giving an hour talk to a society (very small group and I happen to be
the only one that has been involved in DNA group testing (Perkins and
Horton).
I actually told them I did not know enough but they say I know more than what
they do - so I agreed to look further into it BUT need your help.
Thank you

Jackie:

Oldsdw was right in that mtDNA (the only kind of test a woman CAN do) needs
to have a specific question to answer in order to be useful to genealogical
purposes. Otherwise, it provides quite interesting "deep ancestry" but little
else.

I would suggest that you go to www.dnalist.net and click on the link
"Genealogy and DNA." This is the website prepared by the DNA Task Force and it
contains several good links to "beginner" information. There is even a link to a
webpage explaining how mtDNA can be used to solve genealogical questions.

The Task Force is a group of volunteer Surname Project Administrators who are
trying to reach out and educate the larger genealogical society about Surname
Projects. The Task Force is also working on developing some presentation
materials precisely for folks like yourself who have some exposure to DNA and
wish for help in making a presentation. The Speakers' List has begun evaluating
materials for this purpose, which is why I have copied that list in this
response to you. I am sure they will be happy to help you.
