Hi Listers,
The 'origin story' of my Caldwell family is that there were originally
three brothers (surname unknown) who were fleeing the Inquisition, became
Barbary pirates (ostensibly with the Barbarosa's themselves), and then settled in
southwestern Scotland near the parish of Cald-well (cold well) around 1550.
Again, according to the storyline, they were dark haired, dark-eyed and
dark-skinned with high foreheads (and, of course, handsome, intelligent, etc.). They are
R1b AMH haplotype and we have just upgraded to 25 markers to see if we can
get better resolution between Spain and Scotland R1b-types. All the best, Beth
PS I think the name Barbary came from the North African Berber people.
