Ann, Logically what you say makes sense. But there is a curious empirical
generalization concerning just about every large-sized cluster of haplotypes
with specific STR allele frequencies. They seem to eventually go with at
least one defining SNP mutation. I'd like to hear of counter examples. As
we get to smaller and smaller breakdown of the human population, the counter
examples should eventually exist. I think my empirical generalization has
something to do with rough calculations by some that there are many, many
SNP mutations out there in the population. Almost every founder has his SNP
mutation.

I don't think SNP mutations make groups different; when we find groups that
are different people work harder to find their common and unique SNP
mutation(s).
