Dear Friends on this list.
I wanted to tell you about an experience I had with Norton Antivirus today
and recommend that you switch to McAfee the next time your subscription
expires.
My Norton Anti-Virus 2001 subscription expired this last month and, instead
of automatically renewing it, the system told me that it had run the virus
check, but did not download certain critical virus detection and defeating
software because my sub had run out. I went to the Symantec site to renew
the subscription, but nowhere was there any option to do so; clicking on the
renewal button simply led me to another place where I could buy another
piece of software.
Then, I tried following the instructions which told me I needed a
"subscription key" to renew. I called the long distance toll number given
and after going through the usual punch this-punch that number routine,
filled with useless promotions for Windows XP software, I was told that my
call could not be connected at this time and to try again later. I hung up
and immediately googled McAfee, quickly paid for, downloaded, deleted the
Norton, and installed McAfee Virus-Scan which then picked up a nasty that
Norton had missed.
