Sealing is the word and as a result many have bastardized files and lines to
"Seal" themselves into the lines.

I misunderstood. Sorry. I don't know that there are many LDS members in
the South of the US. Most are Baptist, Methodist, with a smattering of
other
Protestant, and a few Catholics in the cities mostly.

I think that many people have traced their ancestors through the Family
Search program of the LDS church, which will allow you to enter (that is not
the
word they use but I cannot recall the exact wording) your ancestors into
their
program, who are then listed as "baptized" in Salt Lake City. If you note
the baptism dates of many such people you will see that they are usually
"baptized" after their deaths. Hundreds of years after in some cases.

I am not knocking the LDS or their genealogy work. If it hadn't been for
FamilySearch I would not have become so interested in genealogy.
