There are dna studys and two types of dna male and female . The usual type
is male because the y dna is past from father to son and basicly doesnt
change much in thousands of years. So you can shoot out a straight line and
connect with matches . These matches have probablities by how much they match
the more they match the closer they are
Female mtdna is passes from mother to son he doesnt pass it on and mom to
daughter they do pass it on. So you have your moms mtdna your brother if you have
one has you moms mtdna and his dads ydna
your daughters and sons will get your moms dna thru you .Your brothers sons
get your dads dna
I hope thats clear
These projects like FARRELL are usually ydna with the hope to find some
common ancestor. lets say there are 50 farrell males in ARDAGH Ireland where the
Farrell Clan is located and I bet there is. You could test them and see if
they are all decended from the same Farrell. Now if they tested these FARRELLS
and lets say there are two separate ydnas close but separate. Now a FARRELL
from Chelsea Ma. could test ,along with a Farrell from VA. John B. FARLEY's
line tests, and one of yours from CA. You could find that all three are from
Longford. Now maybe they match one or the other lines of FARRELLS either way
you just found a ton of cousins. And the more FARRELLS that join expands the
amount of FARRELLS lines that connect .and you get more FARRELLS . Do you see
the picture? Maybe we find decedents of the two males in Ardagh
MTDNA
Suppose you are a member of the Chelsea dna project and you are a female
CURTIS and you have connected up to my DENNING cluster. Your a ggggg grand
daughter of the Kate FARLY mentioned in the original post.I have the cluster in
front of me and I see a direct line of Pink lines from Kate to you. You should
have Kate's mtdna. Now this cluster is over 200 families in size and streches
across my computor screen kate had say three daughters .Turns out they went in
separate directions with some grand daughter marring a LYNCH who already was
in the cluster. So that line shoots across the screen. So today when her grand
daughter lives in Virgina, this lady also has a line of pink lines going back
to Kate farley. Both of you whould have kate FARLEY'S mtdna but not her name
FARLEY
This is how the chelsea project will work. Now not all clusters are that big
and some are suggestive of conections. Due to the fact 1880 and before.
Maiden names were only on marriage records I have tons of Mary ,Margrets ,Eliza,
Ann and others mtdna can conect to these too
You can read more information from the link below. Probably the best since
you are not really tied to Chelsea is if you have a brother get his dna
tested because you can do your dads and moms dna with him. In the study for his
Surname. Most companies keep the original sample and allow you to slowly
upgrade til you get what you want.
Both projects will show alot but the mtdna needs documentations to probably
connect unless you have paper work and a good knowledge of the conection
