Perhaps she is thinking of the Mandans?

Then there is the Madoc legend. www.tylwythteg.com/nativeamer/native2.html
And then there's the white skinned red haired Peruvians apparently cited by
Thor Heyerdahl in Aku-AKu." and reported by Early Spaniards -- the Viracochas.

Finally, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about blonde blue-eyed "indians"
encountered in the New England area, documented in a contemporary account, and
some discussion that perhaps these were remnants of the Viking Vinland.
However, I can no longer remember the magical combination of terms I put into Google
which turned that up in my searches a year or two ago.

While I am not advocating any such legends and theories, I present them here
as there is some interesting reading among the sites which discuss Native
American (North and South America) legends of white-skinned people "who came
before." I am NOT vouching for the authenticity of the works cited either, merely
suggesting they might be a starting point if anyone wants to research this
topic for what is valid and what is not.
