Gonzalo was sort of a "dances with wolves" character. He chose the Mayan way of life instead of rejoining the Spanish. He ended up joining the fight against the Spanish and dying on the field of battle at the hands of Cortes' Captain's (Pedro de Alvarado) men. Gonzalo had children who would have probably been the first admixture offspring in Mexico.
