Jim, I agree with you that it points back to Iberia. This huge R1b group
does cause some problems for many trying to isolate their origins. I wish I
could get a further breakdown through SNP testing as I suspect I may be
R1b1c6 (SRY2627) or R1b1c8 (P66) which are possibly indicative of Basque
ancestry. I am trying to track down a paper trail connection to my
4-great-grandfather with a Tarin who came from Basque country to Mexico in
1711. He was from the town of Donostia, present-day San Sebastian. If I find
the record I need, it would pretty much clinch my link to the Basques and my
DNA matches to them.

Robert,
By strange coincidence I had searched ybase just before reading your
message, and we match 29/37, which is the closest I have yet found. It's a
bit of a stretch based on a single datum, but I wonder if our match could be
viewed as lending support to the hypothesis that the early population of the
British Isles came from Iberia, especially since there is no question your
lineage is from Iberia, and your other 29 and higher matches appear to be of
English/Irish/Scot origin?
If anyone with greater expertise than I have is interested in pursuing the
question, my ybase ID is MSNX9, and at ysearch it is MWHJK.
