Try Yahoo groups...we tried the same thing with the three or four Coats
lists at rootsweb...

You can't just stop a list. Rootsweb won't let you. Once it is set up if the
administrator needs to leave it, they will consider it an orphan.

I tried to get several lists which are variant spellings of the same name
combined (I administer all of them) and was told NO! That those variant
spellings were found in various records and they would leave them all up
there. I was finally able to get the majority of people over to one of two
(still variant spellings) where I have to cross-post to both lists to make
sure everybody gets the message.
