Dear Robert,

I agree with David. Try leaving out the 385 values in the haplogroup
predictor and you'll see that the remainder of the haplotype fits fairly
well with R1b (and with J2 scoring much less).

Robert,

A tough one. This feels a bit like fringe R1b to me, but that 14,20 at
DYS385a,b is so strange I don't know what to do with it. Any haplotype like
this one is a prime candidate for a SNP test.

Subject: [DNA] Help with Haplogroup prediction

List,

I am trying to get a friend of mine interested in DNA testing and today
while searching the Sorenson database I found someone with his surname
(Farias) and determined what the values were. I thought I would give him
some general info about the haplogroup for the individual I found as an
example. It may or may not be connected to my friend whose ancestry is
Portuguese, while the name in the Sorenson database was from Chile.
Unfortunately I have so far been unable to figure out what the haplogroup
might be. Whit’s predictor shows both R1b and J2 at 24%. There are not
really any close matches at Ysearch.

Does anyone care to help?
