Ellen (and others),

I've been lurking on the list for a few days, and I'd also like to
lend support to the file sharing idea. It could be as simple as 1)
locate an individual or organization willing to donate server space;
2) set up a password-protected website where members of the group can
add/edit/view files.

We need not reinvent the wheel here; there are several web-based,
open-source document management systems that someone with a minimal
amount of web development experience could implement. For example,
"Owl" is a multi-user document management system (DMS) written in PHP
for publishing of files/documents onto the web. It's perfect for a
group like GENEALOGY-DNA-L. For more info, visit
http://sourceforge.net/projects/owl/

Of course, there is the issue of copyright. We would have to get
permission from authors and/or publications to put the documents on
our intranet. This idea would not be considered "Fair Use", and I
don't think the group wants to risk a copyright infringement lawsuit.

Regards,
Ron Rice
