The Townsend Y chromosome project has 44 test results posted with 12 more
tests in the pipeline.

The Townsend surname is understood to have evolved from location of family
residences and may have evolved independently in several locations as
surnames came into existence.

It was expected that a number of family groups would appear as test results
rolled in and that is the case; while some family connections were expected
many others were surprises including one group that includes a Townshend in
England.

Several different haplogroups have appeared would seem reflect various
migrations into what became England.

The results are:

R1b family groups of 15 and 4 and two pairs plus 6 singles

R1a a family group of 5

J2 a pair

I group of 4 and two singles

E3b a single

All comments on the above would be appreciated.

Lewis Townsend, Project Administrator and the only participant to date with
a solid paper trail but not a genetic match which appears to equate to a
"non-paternity event.
