Subject: Genetic Genealogical Laboratory Quality of Service

Greetings Larry & List,
I would like to initially state that I have no personal ties to Relative
Genetics other than the fact they provide the DNA services for the Lindsay
Surname DNA Project and quality of service is important to our Lindsay
Project. Since I have not researched the other DNA laboratories, FTDNA
(Univ. of Arizona), Oxford Ancestors, Biotix, et al as thoroughly, I cannot
speak to the quality measures used in guaranteeing accuracy and
repeatability of their processes.
Relative Genetics is a business unit of Sorenson Genomics LLC . The
Sorenson Genomics LLC laboratory is ISO (International Standards
Organization) 17025 certified for all genetic genealogical testing services
by the Forensic Quality Services of the National Forensic Science and
Technology Center (NFSTC). The scope of the ISO 17025 certification includes
all genetic genealogical services and test methodologies. ISO certification
internally helps to ensure the repeatability of the laboratory's processes.
An internally stated quality commitment is an important first step for a
publicly accessible diagnostic laboratory followed by seeing the need for
external validation services that further guarantees on-going quality to a
laboratory's customer set. The Sorenson Genomics LLC laboratory utilizes
the external accreditation services of both the American Association of
Blood Banks (AABB) and the Forensic Quality Services of the National
Forensic Science and Technology Center (NFSTC) to validate their on-going
quality.
Lastly, Sorenson Genomics LLC Laboratory / Relative Genetics uses Standard
Reference Material (SRM) from the National Institutes of Standards and
Technology (NIST) in their DNA marker analysis which provides for
traceability and allows them to meet the proficiency and traceability
requirements of their external accreditation agencies (AABB and NFSTC).
Someone from Sorenson Genomics LLC Laboratory / Relative Genetics may choose
to make an official statement to correct or add to what I have stated above.

Is there an Independent testing organization which checks the quality of the
testing done by the various commercial DNA testing lab?
