Subject: How many Ancestral lines do we have?
Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 22:47:51 -0700

I was wondering how many Ancestor lines we have, since humans came into
being? This would let me calculate the % of my ancestors that I have Y
DNA/ mtDNA tested. For example, if we have 1000 ancestoral lines going
back in time, then getting all 16 great-great grandparents Y-DNA/mtDNA
“fingerprints” would give me 16/1000 or 1.6% of my genetic makeup. If got
all 32 great-great-great grandparents, I would then have 3.2% of my overall
DNA heritage, etc.

In calculating the # of total ancestors I have for this process, would I
have to take into consideration “pedigree collapse”?

Thanks,

Louis Loccisano
