Subject: news item: DNA tests on identical twin rape suspects

Orchid Cellmark tested 100,000 "DNA characteristics" in identical twins, but
failed to find a difference. These characteristics would presumably be SNPs,
rare mutations that occurred shortly after the fertilized egg divided so they
would be present in most tissues of the developing embryo. Orchid performed the
testing at no charge in hopes of providing a "proof of principle." It's still
theoretically possible, since even 100,000 markers is a small percentage of
the three billion base pairs in the whole genome.
