mainly for historical reasons. P25 was reported first in 2000, then M269 in
2002, then M343 in 2003.
Researchers often stick to the older markers in order to include/compare
with test results already carried out.
In testing P25 FTDNA are following the practice of the lab they use at Univ
of Arizona where P25 was discovered.

P25 is actually a 3 copy marker, P25+ means a A to C mutation at one of the
copies.
