There's a saying from the early days of Usenet newsgroups that
applies to mailing lists too:

"I want just two newsgroups --
one for what I'm interested in,
and one for what I'm not interested in."

Of course the world doesn't work that way. That's why we can
post messages on topics we want to discuss, and delete messages
we don't want to read.

Example: Not having a Y chromosome, I skipped Y-DNA messages
until I had a fair understanding of mtDNA. More recently I've
been dipping a toe in the Y-DNA streams, and I'm actually
thinking of starting two Y-DNA projects.
