Dear Bill, Ken, Glen, & others,

Yes, I have been giving some thought to a version of the program that would
predict subclades of some of the haplogroups. However, we're still a ways
off from seeing that implemented. The key thing is the underlying
dataset--you need to have a few dozen full haplotypes that you're sure are
in the subclades you want to predict. The program itself is no problem--I
just need the appropriate allele frequencies (it's a lot of work to collect
and analyze them). At the moment, it is difficult to segregate the
haplotypes into well defined subclades, but this may change with all of the
subclade SNP testing that seems to be going on. Even when we can accumulate
the needed data, users of the program will have to become accustomed to
seeing two or more high scores, rather than usually finding one that stands
out. There is considerable overlap in the allele frequency distributions
for the subgroups of J, for example, though a small number of markers show
distinctiveness. The scores from the program may help eliminate a couple of
possibilities, but may not distinguish the remaining ones. But, we will see
when we get to that point--maybe it will work better than I think.

Folks on the list can help in this process by sending me their subclade SNP
results when they get them, along with their YSTR values. I'll start
collecting and organizing them.

Whit

Ken...

Thanks. Since you are the key person researching these
I sub-clades, thought you might have a online listing
for us to access..

Wonder if Whit could do I-haplopredictor
based on your findings..?

Thanks

Bill

Bill, I don't know if you know it, but your messages to the list have the
default "reply address" as one of your personal ones. So unless I or others
think about it and just hit reply, the answer does not go to the list. But
you should have had an answer from me on your private email address.

Anyway, my answer was I have no website because I don't know how to
construct one. I had a site on worldfamilies but it became too difficult to
keep updated working through someone else who was very busy with other
things.

Ken
